Telemedicine
St. Andrew’s Hospice has been awarded £92,000 by the New Opportunities Fund Lottery Decision Making Committee to run a Telemedicine Service in Palliative Care across Lanarkshire with the base at St. Andrew’s Hospice and satellite centres at Beckford Lodge, the base of the Lanarkshire Macmillan Service, Alison Lea Medical Centre in East Kilbride, the base for the Hospice Care at Home Service for East Kilbride and Hamilton, and Lockhart Hospital, the base for rural Lanarkshire.
This would enable to following potential outcomes:
The money has been awarded but we have yet to hear from Lanarkshire Health Board regarding the time scale for implementation. The plan is to recruit an audio-visual technician who will be based at St. Andrew’s Hospice and he or she will then supervise buying and installing the equipment at the satellite centres and facilitates teleconferencing by giving access to the network and organising a rota for the above activities.
