Support for carers
St Andrews Hospice offers specialist palliative care, not only for the patient, but also for family members and carers. It is most important that family members and carers are emotionally and spiritually supported, both prior to and post death in a sensitive manner.

Specialist Palliative Care
Provides physical, psychological, social and spiritual support to help the patient and family/carers adapt to the anticipated decline associated with advanced, progressive, incurable decline.
Extends support beyond the life span of the patient to assist the family/carers in their bereavement.
Appreciates the substantial physical, emotional and economic demands placed on the family/carers caring for someone at home, as they attempt to fulfil care- giving responsibilities and meet their own personal needs.
Anticipates that some family/caregivers may be at high-risk for fatigue, physical illness and emotional distress, and considers the special needs of these caregivers in planning and delivering services.
