Reporting To: Schools & Community Development Co-ordinator

Role Aim/Purpose:

To support our Fundraising department by attending secondary school awards nights, primary school assemblies, school shows etc. You would represent the Hospice at these events to collect donations or to say a short thank you to the school for their support – all to assist in income generation to support our patients and their families. This post isn’t a regular, weekly role but links to busy times of the year including August – September, Christmas and at the end of the school year. It can be sporadic but incredibly rewarding to meet the school pupils.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Liaise with a member of the schools team prior to the diary appointment to be fully briefed, obtain contact names and school address and to collect any fundraising materials required/any important information for the appointment.
  • Confirm 1 day before the appointment the details and parking arrangements with the school.
  • Bring any donations back to the main Hospice building on the day of the presentation to follow our financial logging and recording processes. Give any information for thank you letters/certificates to the Schools Team.
  • Thank the school for the invitation and continued support.

Fundraising Schools Driver

Fundraising Schools Driver

Area: Fundraising

Reporting To: Schools & Community Development Co-ordinator

Role Aim/Purpose:

To support our Fundraising department in the delivery and collection of school race packs, Christmas items, sponsor forms, fundraising resources, donations and occasionally attendance at events – all to assist with income generation to support patients and their families. This volunteer post isn’t a regular, weekly role but links to busy times of the year including August – September, Christmas and post-Easter.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with the Schools and Communities team at the beginning of each shift (or in advance) to plan collection/drop off schedule.
  • Carry out vehicle check to ensure vehicle is well maintained
  • Deliver and uplift goods to/from schools, nurseries or colleges
  • Uplift items from schools, nurseries of colleges throughout Lanarkshire
  • Return to Fundraising department and follow check-in process
  • Complete logs

CLAN Volunteer Befriender

CLAN Volunteer Befriender

Reports to: CLAN Support Worker

Remit:

To provide friendship and support to clients, carers and their families affected by a life limiting condition, helping them to cope and improving wellbeing. The service is delivered to the client and carer within their own home with the aim of reducing anxiety and stress and improving the quality of life for all.

General:

It is recognised that duties and responsibilities for the CLAN Volunteer Befriender can be many and varied as the befriending relationship is unique and tailored to the needs of the individual person.  The volunteer will work to an agreed plan of action as set out by CLAN Coordinator / Support Worker, in providing appropriate support to the client, carer and family members.

Key Duties (will be agreed on an individualised basis)

  • Supporting clients and their carers affected by a life-limiting condition in their own home or via telephone/digital technology, providing friendship and social support.
  • Providing a listening ear for clients, carers and their families
  • Providing companionship (reading, chatting, letter writing)
  • Providing respite for carers for short periods (up to a maximum of two hours) as agreed with the family and CLAN Coordinator/Support Worker
  • Assisting with other non-care related aspects of daily living, when appropriate as agreed by the CLAN Coordinator and in-keeping with the individualised action plan. e.g. creating memories, playing games, reading, enjoying a cup of tea
  • Clients could be accompanied out to a social venue if this meets the client’s needs and has been agreed in advance by the CLAN Coordinator.

Other Duties

  • Participating in reflective practice sessions at least three times a year (‘Cuppa and Catch Up’) and some team meetings pertaining to the CLAN project
  • Attending induction and undertaking mandatory training related to the befriending role
  • Undertaking agreed training programme within a 12 month period

Role Aim/Purpose:

To support our retail department in the delivery and collection of stock/donations to assist in income generation to support our patients and their families.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Meet with the Warehouse Manager at the beginning of each shift to plan collection/drop off schedule
  • Carry out vehicle check to ensure vehicle is well maintained
  • Deliver and uplift goods to/from Hospice shops
  • Uplift items from homes and businesses throughout Lanarkshire
  • Complete logs and promote/collect Gift Aid applications

Volunteer Shop Assistant

Volunteer Shop Assistant

Area: St Andrew’s Hospice Shop

Reporting To: Shop Manager

Role Aim/Purpose:

  • To provide a warm welcome to all customers entering a St Andrew’s Hospice Shop
  • To assist the Shop Manager and fellow volunteers to provide an efficient and pleasant environment by working as a team
  • To assist in promoting the ethos and reputation of St Andrew’s Hospice

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Report to Shop Manager on arrival to be assigned daily duties as required
• Take responsibility for personal valuables, ensuring that they are locked away at all times (consult with Manager)
• Carrying out all EPOS transactions required
• To undertake a range of tasks which include:
– Sorting donations / identifying categories
– Maximising customer Gift Aid scheme
– General Housekeeping
– Pricing Goods
– Changing stock on shop floor
– Operating Till / EPOS System
– Answering Telephone / engaging with customers
– Keeping all shop areas clean and tidy

Have Knowledge and Understanding of:

  • Volunteers will not be responsible for determining the price or reduction of any items received. This is the Shop Manager’s responsibility.
  • Volunteers wishing to purchase any items must clear this with the Shop Manager who will give permission and notification of purchasing procedure. All staff to be served and not process personal sales discounts on their own log in.
  • All Volunteers unable to attend assigned duty date, please telephone before 10.00a.m, giving at least one day’s notice where possible. This consideration will afford the Shop Manager adequate time in which to acquire the necessary cover vital to the smooth running of daily business.
  • All Volunteers are required to abide by the Store Guidelines & Health & Safety policies.
  • All Volunteers are required to abide by the work processes in place and overseen by the Shop Manager.
  • All Volunteers will be expected to abide by the Hospice Statement of Confidentiality. Failure to do so will result in the termination of the Volunteer Agreement.

General Summary:

  • This role being of a voluntary basis must be kept within the parameters as outlined in this role description and any guidelines laid down by the Hospice.
  • All Shop Managers are ultimately responsible for the smooth running and efficiency of their branch and as such will require the full co-operation of all their Volunteer workforce.
  • The Hospice respects and recognises the commitment and loyalty of their Volunteer workforce.

To continue the welcome of patients and visitors to St Andrew’s Hospice by providing a first class hospitality service.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serving hot and cold food/drinks
  • Keeping the café clean and tidy
  • Tidying up dishes and using the dishwasher
  • Wiping down tables
  • Restocking confectionery supplies
  • Selling baked goods and confectionery
  • Using the till and card machine

Event Support Volunteer

Area: Fundraising

Reporting To: Community & Events Fundraising Team

Role Aim/Purpose:

To support our Fundraising department in the delivery and promotion of Fundraising events to assist in income generation to support our patients and their families. Mainly supporting at event locations and at promotional locations.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with the Community & Events Fundraising Team in advance of events/arranged promotional work to plan tasks and support needed.
  • Read over any relevant plans or risk assessments to ensure you are aware of the tasks and any health and safety support that is in place.
  • Support role will be clearly explained depending on the event you are working at/on.
  • Occasional driving to drop off goods at event locations, provide stewarding and assist with event promotional activities that may be required.
  • Complete any training or sign in logs required.

Key Skills Required:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly approach
  • Organisational skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Full, clean driving license (not essential but event volunteers are required to have transport in place to be able to reach the event location)
