30th October 2017 - 9th November 2017

Sponsored by The Ellen Kane Trust

Join us on an adventure of a lifetime!

Nepal is widely regarded as the finest destination in the world for trekking, and the area around Annapurna, is very hard to beat. In the evening after a day of trekking, there is nothing better than to put your feet up and relax with your fellow trekkers looking out at the magnificent scenery. From our highest point on the trek, the panorama of the Himalayas is truly awe inspiring, with Dhaulghiri to the west, Manaslu to the east and in between them, Annapurna and Macchapucchare, the ‘fishtailed’ mountain. But Nepal is not just a place for mountains and trekking, it is also a place where the warmth of its people, its unique culture and incredible history, bring a visit to this mystical country alive.

DEPARTURE

Flights and times from either Glasgow or Edinburgh still to be finalized.

NEPAL

We arrive at Kathmandu International airport and transfer to our hotel in the centre of town. This afternoon we have a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square and relax after the long flight. Tonight, we have a welcome meal to celebrate our arrival in this magnificent country.

TIKHREDHUNGA 3-4hrs TREKKING

A scenic hour long drive from Pokhara takes us to the starting point of our trek. Crossing the suspension bridge over the Modi Khola river, we ascend slowly through terraced fields and classic mountain villages. Along the way we will encounter mule or goat caravans carrying supplies to the mountains, heralded by the musical bells they wear. The stunning peaks of Machhapuchare and the Annapurna’s peaking over the green ridges will greet us from time to time as we continue up to our comfortable teahouse in Tikhredhunga.

GHOREPANI 5-6hrs TREKKING

Today is all uphill, steep and hard at first then more gradual all the way to our teahouse at Ghorepani, passing through some delightful villages and the beautiful, dense rhododendron forest so characteristic of Nepal at these altitudes! With clear weather we see stunning mountain views making the climb well worth it! We are now on the main Annapurna Circuit. Ghorepani literally means “horse water” and is a popular stopping place for mule trains plying the route from Pokhara to Jomsom. The impressive peak which can be seen across the broad valley of the Kali Gandaki to the northwest is the magnificent Dhaulagiri.

POON HILL 5-6+hrs TREKKING

The predawn climb up to the celebrated view point of Poon Hill 3195m is a real highlight or the trek as we head up the well marked track by torchlight. The first light of dawn illuminates Dhaulagiri and Tukuche Peak with a surreal pink glow. After our return to Ghorepani for breakfast, we continue trekking on to our teahouse in Dobato through more beautiful forest and along an amazing ridgeline. If we are lucky we will see some wild animals, such as langur monkeys climbing through the trees. There are excellent views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhare.

TADAPANI 3-5+hrs TREKKING

In case the weather wasn’t good at Poonhill we have a second predawn climb for those that wish to the view point above Dobato to enjoy the incredible sunrise views of the Annapurnas and Dhaulagiri. After this stunning sight and breakfast back at base, we start a magnificent descent to Tadapani, passing an ancient Gurung Temple along the way. The trail winds through forest, before opening out at the small village of Meshar Danda. From here it is another steep descent down to Tadapani where we stay for the night.

GHANDRUK 3-5hrs TREKKING

From Tadapani the trail descends through beautiful forests to Ghandruk, which is a stunning village of Gurung people, one of Nepal’s most famous ethnic groups, known for their distinctive dialect, culture, costume, and life style. Ghandruk is also home to many soldiers from the famous Gurkha regiments. From here we have stunning views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Fishtail. This evening we stay at a local teahouse.

POKHARA 4-5hrs TREKKING

Today we can enjoy a final down hill walk through forest and villages for about 5 hrs to Nayapul. From here we drive for about 1 hour back to Pokhara where we can enjoy a shower and relax in this stunning lakeside town with plenty of time to enjoy the memories! Tonight we celebrate our achievements of the last few days with a great meal.

KATHMANDU

This morning we wake early for our coach transfer back to Kathmandu. Lunch is on the way at a beautiful riverside resort. We arrive at our Kathmandu hotel where we finally have the chance to relax and an evening free in the city to discover some of this city’s incredible sites.

RETURN HOME

Today we transfer to the airport for our return flight back home. This may be an overnight flight depending on airline and availability.
