Music Therapy
Music Therapy
Music Therapy is available on Mondays through our partnership with West of Scotland Music Therapy. The service is available for both inpatients, outpatients and carers in group settings and ad-hoc individual sessions.
Music Therapy is an Allied Health Profession which uses an arts-based approach to therapy where music can be used in creative ways to safely connect to inner thoughts and feelings which might be difficult to express in words. Through music, the Music Therapist offers meaningful musical companionship, focusing on what a person can do, rather than the limitations of their illness. This allows an important space for creativity and expression.
Music therapy can provide a valuable outlet for emotions and the opportunity to focus on something meaningful, giving a sense of comfort and enjoyment when it is needed most.
You don’t have to have previous musical experience or skills to engage in music therapy. The Music Therapist will help support you to explore musical instruments and your voice in a way that is right for you. Music therapy sessions might use a lot of structured music, such as singing familiar songs, or individuals might explore music freely through music that is improvised on the spot. There is no right or wrong way to play music in music therapy.
